Wiley Parkman Counseling
Life doesn't come with a Roadmap
Sometimes we find ourselves struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, career transitions, or simply feeling stuck without knowing why. As a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I provide a warm, supportive space where you can work through these challenges and discover new perspectives.
WELCOME!
At Wiley Parkman Counseling, my mission is to empower individuals, couples, and families to create lasting, meaningful change through a relational and compassionate approach. I believe that healing and growth come from deep, trusting connections, and I am committed to fostering a safe, supportive environment where clients feel truly heard, understood, and valued.
How I Help Young Adults
The transition to adulthood brings unique pressures—career decisions, identity questions, relationship challenges, and financial responsibilities can feel overwhelming. Using evidence-based CBT techniques, I help young adults:
- Transform negative thought patterns that hold you back
- Develop practical coping strategies for anxiety and stress
- Navigate complex relationships and boundaries
- Build confidence in decision-making
- Create meaningful life direction when feeling lost
My clients often tell me that our sessions feel like talking with someone who truly “gets it”—because I believe that authentic connection and occasional humor can make the therapeutic journey more comfortable and effective.
Couples Counseling That Works
Relationships require care and maintenance, just like anything valuable in life. Whether you’re experiencing communication breakdowns, navigating a major life transition together, or simply wanting to strengthen your connection, I offer couples counseling that gets to the heart of the matter.
My approach combines CBT techniques with practical relationship tools to help couples:
- Develop healthier communication patterns
- Navigate conflicts without damaging your connection
- Rebuild trust and intimacy
- Create shared goals and understanding
- Rediscover the joy and friendship in your relationship
Healing Trauma Through Internal Family Systems (IFS)
For those carrying the weight of past trauma, I also offer specialized treatment using Internal Family Systems therapy. IFS recognizes that we all have different “parts” within us that developed to help us cope with difficult experiences. Think of these parts like members of an internal family – each with good intentions but sometimes working at cross-purposes.
When we experience trauma, certain parts take on protective roles that may have been necessary for survival then, but can limit our lives now. IFS provides a compassionate framework to:
- Connect with your whole self beyond the trauma
- Understand the protective purpose behind challenging emotions or behaviors
- Build a relationship with wounded parts that need healing
- Restore harmony to your internal system
- Process difficult experiences with self-compassion
Many clients find IFS uniquely powerful because it doesn’t force you to relive traumatic experiences in detail. Instead, it creates a gentle pathway to healing by honoring all parts of you and the wisdom they hold.
Think of it like this: if your mind were a garden, CBT helps you identify which plants are weeds (unhelpful thoughts) and which are flowers (constructive thoughts)—then gives you the tools to cultivate more of what helps you thrive.
The CBT Difference
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of the most effective and well-researched therapeutic approaches available. Unlike some therapies that focus primarily on past experiences, CBT helps you identify and change the thought patterns that affect how you feel and act right now.
Think of it like this: if your mind were a garden, CBT helps you identify which plants are weeds (unhelpful thoughts) and which are flowers (constructive thoughts)—then gives you the tools to cultivate more of what helps you thrive.
The beauty of CBT is that it provides practical skills you can use throughout your life, long after our sessions end. My clients appreciate this approach because it offers:
- Clear strategies you can implement immediately
- A focus on solutions rather than just discussing problems
- Measurable progress toward your goals
- Skills that help with multiple life challenges
What to Expect in Our Sessions
Many people feel nervous about starting therapy, wondering what it will be like or if they’ll be judged. Here’s what you can expect when working with me:
- A judgment-free zone where all feelings are valid
- Genuine conversation, not clinical interrogation
- Occasional humor to lighten difficult moments
- Practical homework that fits realistically into your life
- Clear feedback and observations
- A collaborative approach where you have input into your treatment
Faith-Informed Counseling
My approach to therapy is informed by a strong Christian faith foundation, which gives me a deep appreciation for the spiritual dimension of healing and growth. I believe that true wellness encompasses mind, body, and spirit, and I welcome clients who wish to integrate their faith into the therapeutic process.
That said, I work with clients from all faith backgrounds—or none at all—with equal respect and care. My faith inspires my commitment to seeing the inherent worth in every person and providing compassionate, non-judgmental support regardless of your beliefs.
For clients who desire it, I can incorporate faith-based perspectives that might include:
- Exploring how spiritual resources can support your healing journey
- Understanding forgiveness as a pathway to freedom
- Finding meaning and purpose during difficult seasons
- Reconciling faith questions with psychological wellness
- Integrating spiritual practices that promote mental health
